தல வரலாறு: ஜாபாலி மகரிஷி நரசிம்மரின் தரிசனம் வேண்டி இத்தலத்தில் கடும் தவம் இருந்தார். இவரது தவத்திற்கு மகிழ்ந்த பெருமாள் பிரதோஷ வேளையில் மகரிஷிக்கு தரிசனம் தந்தார். இதன் அடிப்படையில் இத்தலத்தில் பெருமாளுக்கு பிரதோஷத்தன்று திருமஞ்சனம் நடக்கிறது. மூலவர் பாடலாத்ரி நரசிம்மர் சங்கு, சக்கரம் ஏந்தியுள்ளார். வலது கையை அபயகரமாகவும் , இடது கை தொடை மீது வைத்த நிலையிலும் உள்ளது. மூன்று கண்களுடன் கிழக்கு நோக்கி அமர்ந்துள்ளார். உற்சவர் பிரகலாதவரதன் ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூதேவியுடன் நின்ற கோலத்தில், பிரணவகோடி விமானத்தின் கீழ் அருள்கின்றனர்.மூலவர் குகைக்கோயிலில் அருள்பாலிப்பதால் அவரை வலம் வர வேண்டுமென்றால் சிறிய குன்றினையும் சேர்த்து வலம் வர வேண்டும்.

Singaperumalkoil is a census town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A famous Lord Narasimha Temple is situated here. It is located by the GST road between Chennai and Chengalpattu.

Demographics

As of 2001^[update] India census^[1], Singaperumalkoil had a population of 8057. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Singaperumalkoil has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 66%. In Singaperumalkoil, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Temple

The famous Lord Narasimha Temple is on top of the small hill known as 'Padalathri". The Lord Ugra Narasimha (Fourth Avatar) resides inside a cave in Yoga Posture.This is the posture in which the Lord gave Darshan to Jabali Rishi as per his wishes. The idol has three eyes where it is showed during the "Aarthi". The entire temple and the idol was constructed from a single rock of the mountain.This is the speciality of the temple.This temple was said to have been constructed by the pallavas.There is a separate shrine for the Goddess Lakshmi known as Ahobila Valli. One can go around the temple using small steps. On the way, Lord Srinivasa Idol is also worshipped. The temple tree is a wish tree where people tie knots to gain wishes.

Singaperumal Koil Sri Ugra Narasimhar

Singaperumal Koil is about 25 kms from Tambaram and the temple is just 100 meters off the GST Road.

The village itself is named after the deity of this temple. The main deity here is Lord Narasimhar. This is a beautiful rock cut temple. The temple and even the deity is carved out of a small hillock. Here the Lord is known as Sri Paatalaadri Narasimhar. In Sanskrit Paatalaadri means a reddish hill. The original name of this place itself is Paatalaadripuram.

According to temple sources, this temple has been referred in Brahmaanda Puraanam. Lord Vishnu took the form (Avataar) of Sri Narasimha and killed the demon king Hiranyakasipu. At the time of Narasimha Avataar, this place was surrounded by dense forests. A sage called ‘Jaapaali’ was performing Thapas, praying Lord Vishnu. As wished by him, the Lord gave dharshan to him in the form of Ugra (fierce) Narasimhar.

The main sanctum itself is a rock cut shrine on which the deity too is carved out of the hill itself. So, whoever wants to circumambulate around the temple has to actually go around the small hillock as Giri Pradhakshinam. Hence, Giri Pradhakshinam is very popular here.

There are Bali Peetams seen at certain directions, while going around the temple.

The main deity is seen here as Ugra (fierce) murthy, holding Paanchajanya (conch) and Sudharsana Chakra, showing Abhaya Hastha in one of His hands. Sri Narasimha Swamy here has 3 eyes and the third eye is shown by the priest while performing Haarathi.

The Goddess here is Sri Ahobila Valli Thaayaar. There is a separate shrine for Lord Vishnu too.

The Urchavar here is called Sri Prahalaadha Varadhar.

While walking around the temple, there is an Azhinjal tree in this temple, which is considered most sacred. It is said that this tree has mentions in the ‘Naachiyaar Thirumozhi’ composed by Sri Aandaal. People praying for marriage or children tie a small piece of thread from their clothes on the branches of this tree. By doing this with a wish, it is believed that their wishes are granted.

Sri Anjaneyar (Hanuman) is seen on the pillar adjacent to Dwajasthambha, where many people light Ghee lamps for the God.

While entering into the street of this temple, there are 4 pillars welcoming us, which look too ancient having beautiful sculptures.

The Theertham for this temple is called Suddha Pushkarani and Sthala Viruksham is Paarijaatham.
